Training at a Harvard Hospital

Community voices on Harvard training programs

Trainees and program leaders describe their experiences with diversity, Harvard-affiliated training programs and life in Boston.

Visiting Clerkship Program

The Visiting Clerkship Program (VCP), sponsored by the Minority Faculty Development Program of the Harvard Medical School (HMS) Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership, provides support for qualified third and fourth-year medical students from groups underrepresented in medicine (African American, Native American, and Hispanic American) to participate in the HMS Exchange Clerkship Program.

Clerkships are four weeks in length and are available, space permitting, to full-time fourth-year students in good standing at accredited US medical schools.

Harvard Affiliated Residency Programs Showcase

The Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership, in collaboration with the Harvard-affiliated hospitals, hosts annual Harvard Affiliated Residency Programs Showcase at Harvard Medical School (HMS). As an expansion of the HMS Visiting Clerkship Program, this event provides URM medical students in their 3rd or 4th year from the New England region as well as other states with an opportunity to meet and network with Harvard affiliated residency program training directors, attending physicians, fellows and residents.

New England Science Symposium

The Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership at HMS and the BSCP co-sponsor the New England Science Symposium. The aim of the symposium is to encourage postdoctoral fellows, medical, grad and college students from groups underrepresented in medicine (particularly African-American, Hispanic-American and American Indian/Alaska Native) who are involved in biomedical and health-related research, to share their work through oral presentations or poster sessions and to exchange ideas to further their career development.

Harvard Catalyst Diversity Visiting Research Internship Program (VRIP)

Harvard Catalyst Program for Faculty Development and Diversity (PFDD) Visiting Research Internship Program (VRIP) is designed to enhance student, trainee and fellow recruitment to CTSC training programs, particularly individuals from racial and ethnic groups that are underrepresented in health-related sciences; expand science research training opportunities to pre-professional school minority and disadvantaged students to increase their interest in research and health-related careers, particularly C/T research careers.
